Expert Care. Compassionate Support. Every Step of the Way.
When someone you love is seriously ill, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and alone.
Since 1983, Hospicare & Palliative Care Services has been a trusted nonprofit organization serving residents of Tompkins and Cortland counties. Whether you're navigating a terminal illness, seeking relief from pain and symptoms, or coping with the loss of someone close, we’re here to help.
What We Provide
We provide personalized care for individuals of any age with a terminal diagnosis. Our focus is helping people live fully and comfortably in their final months, surrounded by support, dignity, and peace. Most patients receive care in their homes, but we also offer care in hospitals, nursing homes, or our six-bed residence in Ithaca. (support and education for family, vs. Dignity and peace).
Palliative Care
Our palliative care team specializes in managing pain, symptoms, and stress at any stage of a serious illness—not just at the end of life. This support can be offered alongside curative treatment and helps improve quality of life for patients and their families.
Grief Support
Grief doesn’t follow a timeline. That’s why we offer counseling, support groups, and educational programs for individuals and families of all ages—regardless of whether your loved one was in our care.
How We Care
An Interdisciplinary Team
Care at Hospicare is deeply collaborative. Each patient is supported by a coordinated team that may include a nurse, social worker, home health aide, chaplain, volunteer, and our medical director. We also work closely with your primary doctor and other healthcare providers to ensure seamless, personalized care.
Covered by Medicare
Hospice is a Medicare benefit—and one that you or your loved one likely already qualify for. Our services are also covered by Medicaid and most private insurance plans. We offer sliding-scale fees, and no one is ever turned away due to an inability to pay.
Wherever You Need Us
Hospicare brings care to the setting that works best for you at home, in a hospital or nursing home, or at our peaceful residence in the hills of Ithaca.
Why We’re Here
We believe that high-quality, compassionate care is essential at every stage of life—and especially at the end. Our mission is to walk beside people during life’s most difficult
transitions with skill, support, and humanity.
When you're ready—or even if you're unsure—we’re here to talk.

“There is no clearer example of compassion in my mind than the relationship between families and the Hospicare staff and volunteers. They give a gift – by accompanying families and their loved ones – to transform what may feel like a harrowing end into a hallowed transition.”
- Rev. Tim Dean, chaplain, Cayuga Medical Center
