Join us for a discussion of Bee Wilson’s new book, The Heart Shaped Tin: Love, Loss and Kitchen Objects at Tompkins County Public Library. The memoir begins one August day, months after Bee Wilson’s marriage has abruptly ended, when a heart-shaped baking tin falls at her feet: the same one she used to bake her wedding cake twenty-three years prior. This discovery strikes a wave of emotions that propel her search for others who have attached magical and personal properties to the objects in their kitchens, especially those that belonged to people they have lost. Participants will each be loaned a copy of the book. Indicate on the registration form if you will be picking up a copy, and it will be made available for you at Hospicare, 172 E. King Road, Ithaca during regular business hours (8:30am-4:30pm). Allow two business days to process your registration and make the book available. The books will be added to a book club kit afterwards, so please return them at the discussion, or to the Hospicare reception desk, when you are done. This discussion is made possible in full with funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, administered by the Community Arts Partnership, and funds from the Friends of the Tompkins County Public Library. This event is co-hosted by Story House Ithaca.
